For breastfeeding only support available postpartum (virtual option for clients outside 30 mile radius of Kansas City)
Single Lactation Visit
(Initial Consult 1-1.5 hr, Follow-up appts. 30-60min)
- Review mother/infant health, events of infant’s birth, and previous breastfeeding experiences
- Identify breastfeeding goals and any concerns
- Assess infant/mother anatomy including latch
- Observe feeding and/or pumping session to evaluate technique and effectiveness
- Demonstrate positioning and milk expression techniques
- Discuss helpful ways client’s support person can assist with breastfeeding success (1 support person may be present during visit)
- Provide recommendations and create a plan of care
After Visit
- phone/text/email support for up to 2 weeks after appointment to review progress and continue to provide guidance in the plan created
- 2 twenty minute phone/video calls within 2 weeks
